*A fierce battle rages as the Gods of Asgard and Vanaheim fight off the forces of the Jotuns. In the middle of the fray, a bizarre sight can be seen: a massive pack of chihuahuas, miniature poodles, papillons, and other various breeds of dogs rush a mountain troll valiantly but are quickly dispatched.*
Thor: Father, I am confused by something.
Odin: What vexes your mind, my son?
Thor: Why do we have among our ranks these beasts unfit for war; brave though some may be?
Odin: *Sigh* These are the dogs that humans said “crossed the rainbow bridge” on social media.

Oh dear…I am laughing, but at the same time, I can imagine the horrified reactions that some will have to this vignette! 😉

It’s definitely dark humor and while I don’t necessarily relish the thought of dogs being crushed underfoot by giants and trolls I do have to say that the unquestioned appropriation of the rainbow bridge into internet lore regarding pets is a strange one without context.
Now granted, I later looked up the origin of this idea and found that it stems from a poem written sometime in the 1980s by an unknown author that depicts the souls of animals crossing a rainbow bridge to a meadow where they happily await their owners before being reunited upon their humans’ deaths and entering Heaven with them. That being said, I’d hope people can understand why this scene would enter my mind! Lol

There’s probably a non-negligible amount of people out there, though, who have seen certain MCU films and have wondered why they have “that rainbow bridge from the dead pet poem” in Asgard, alas…and I’ve seen/known first-hand no small number of pagans who know the original lore who use that phrase and imagery for their own dead critters, alas…!?!
But we polytheists know better: dead dogs don’t go to Asgard, they go to Anubis’ School of Soul Search & Rescue and get put through their paces in their first few weeks after death so that they can help their owners (and many others) cross over when it is their own time to die…but they help loads of others in the meanwhile.
And don’t think Zoroastrian dogs don’t have it best of all when it comes to post-life existence as far as canid companions are concerned! 😉

🤣🤣🤣 Well, all the guard dogs get reincarnated and sent back to their humans, so poor Odin and Thor are left with the runts.

Lol no I’m pretty sure Odin is keeping those guys too. The All-Father takes whatever He can get if it means even more resources to maintain the cosmic order He and His brothers forged
